After withdrawing his knife from the now deceased Colonel Skimmel, Sabata hears approaching footsteps and turns to see Escudo enter the room and observing the dead bodies. He turns to go to open the drawer under the model ship to retrieve the key for the Gold Room. Sabata rolls one of Septeimbre’s steel balls in the path of Escudo, who steps on the ball and falls to the floor. Sabata tells him to stay where he is and to reach up and pull open the drawer which shoots the cannons on the ship. Having his life saved Escudo remembers Gitano had come with him but is not there.
