Remembering Lola Gaos

Dolores Gaos Gonzáles Pola was born on December 2 1921 in Valencia, Spain. After the Spanish Civil War the family was exiled to Latin America where as Lola Gaos she started her stage career. She returned to Spain in 1945 and toured with such theatrical troupes as Mercedes Prendes, Mary Carrillo and Guillermo Marin. In 1949 she began he film career appearing in a Spanish short “El sótano”. In the following years, especially during the 1960s Lola became one of the most renowned actresses in Spanish films working with such directors as Luis Buñuel, Luis García Berlanga, José María Forqué and Juan Antonio Bardem. Her television appearances date back to the first television productions in Spain, starting in 1957, where she only had one year of TVE broadcasting where she starred in the series “Los Tele-Rodriguez”. Years later she participated in the frivolous and  iconic Spanish TV series “Historia de la frivolidad” , “Historias para no dormer” and “Estudio 1”, “Novela, El Irreal Madrid (1969), “Tres eran tres” (1972-1973) and “Lorca, muerte de un poeta” (1987). Lola appeared in two Euro-westerns, “The Ugly Ones” (1967) as Ruth Harmon and “Pancho Villa” (1972). Gaos died on July 4, 1993 in Madrid, Spain of throat cancer. Today we remember Lola Gaos on what would have been her 90th birthday.
