Remembering Peter Alexander

Peter Alexander Ferdinand Maximilian Neumayer was born on June 30, 1926 in Vienna, Austria and was a popular singer, actor and television host. From the 1950s to the 1990s he was one of the most popular entertainers in German speaking countries. His parents wanted him to become a doctor but Peter wanted to become an actor. He graduated from training at the Max-Reinhardt-Seminar with honors in 1948 calling himself Peter Alexander. A huge admirer of Frank Sinatra he taught himself how to sing and play the piano and began his singing career in 1951. Between 1952 and 1972 Peter appeared in 38 films and from 1966 until 1996 he performed on TV with his own series the Peter-Alexander-Show. He also toured with composer Udo Juergens. He was married to actress Hildegarde [1922-2003] from 1952 until her death in 2003, and they had two children. After his wife’s death he withdrew from public life and passed away on February 12, 2011 in Vienna. Peter appeared in only one Euro-western, "Count Bobby, the Terror of the Wild West" (1965) as Count Bobby Pinelski. Today we remember Peter Alexander on what would have been his 85th birthday.
