Remembering Antun Nalis

Antun Nalis, affectionately called Tonci, was born on February 4, 1911 in Zara, Austria-Hungary which became part of Italy. This later helped Antun to appear in Italian films after World War II. At first he studied law in Belgrade and then joined a theater troupe. His first film appearance was in 1949's “Zastava”. From this he built a career as a character actor in Croatian, Yugoslavian and Italian films. In the 1950s he appeared in several TV series and when the Karl May films began filming in Yugoslavia Antun found roles in six Euro-westerns. “The Treasure of Silver Lake” (1962), “Apache Gold” (1963), “Last of the Renegades” (1964), “Treasure of the Aztecs” and Pyramid of the Sun Gods” and “Rampage at Apache Wells” all in 1965. Nalis would go on to appear in over 95 films and TV appearances. In 1985 he was awarded a lifetime achievement award for his work in the Slavic film industry. Antun died on February 14, 2000 in Zagreb, Croatia at the age of 89. Today we remember Antun Nalis on what would have been his 100th birthday.
